Results were as follows ; 1) The total numbers of handicapped students were 123 and were equivalent to 0.72% of total students (17,190) who were instructed physical education in Nagoya University from 1978 to 1987. 2) Principal diseases of handicapped students were orthopedic diseases such as bone fractures and lumbar spine diseases which were equivalent to 48.8% (60 patients) of total handicapped students. Fifty-one students (41.5%) were suffering from medical diseases such as nephritis (19 pt, 37.3%), cardio-vascular diseases (10 pt, 19.6%). pulmonary diseases (9 pt, 17.6%) chiefly spontaneous pneumothorax and digestive system diseases (8 pt, 15.7%) chiefly hepatitis. 3) These diseases consist of 38 temopary cases (30.9%), and 85 chronic cases (69.1%). Most of patients were not so severe, but some of them were in serious conditions such as cervical spine injury, tetralogy of Fallot, brain tumor etc. In recent years hypokinetic diseases have been reported with increasing frequency.
