内容記述 | The aims of this study were: 1) to investigate the process of friendship development comparing students who advanced from the junior high school level to the high school level within the same school (advancing students), to those who were admitted from other schools at the high school level (newcomer students): 2) to examine how these two groups of students perceive each other: and 3) to examine the relationship between attitudes toward each other and their interpersonal adjustment. An interview survey was conducted, with the following results. First, advancing students were likely to distinguish between two broad categories, consisting of advancing students, and newcomer students, while newcomers viewed themselves not as a single entity, but more on an individual basis, while they viewed advancing students as a group. Second, advancing students who were more accepting of newcomers exhibited higher levels of interpersonal adjustment, and development of intimate relationships. On the contrary, advancing students who were less accepting of newcomers showed only low levels of interpersonal adjustment. Third, high interpersonal adjustment was seen among newcomers who viewed the school atmosphere positively, or who developed close relationships with advancing students. In contrast, Iow levels of interpersonal adjustment were seen among newcomers who perceived themselves as being excluded from the advancing student networks. | |||||
