| 内容記述 | Historically, the movement of university students' study abroad has tended to be from developing countries to English-speaking developed countries. However, a new trend of studying in non-English-speaking and developing countries has gradually emerged. Accordingly, in Japan, universities have set up study abroad programs for sending their students to ASEAN countries. In this paper, the author has conducted a case study of selected universities to investigate factors that would influence the decision to establish study abroad programs in ASEAN countries. University faculty members and administrators participated in semi-structured interviews about what prompted them to establish such strategies and programs for dispatching students to ASEAN countries. Data indicates that the expansion of such programs are the result of "having a network of alumni", "highly frequent use of English", "affinity for both Japan and ASEAN among stakeholders", "geographical proximity" and "modest costs compared to the existing programs." The study abroad programs are developed based on the mutual effects of these elements. | |||||
